Reginald L. Cone was born on July 11, 1946. His home of record is Newark, NJ. Cone was a 1964 graduate of Central High School.
He enlisted in the US Army in December of 1965 and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). Cone completed basic training at Fort Dix and jump training at Fort Benning. He was an Army Paratrooper with A Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment.
Cone’s mother received letters during his service that demonstrated his bravery. One stated, “It’s rough over here, but I’m rougher.” Cone had planned to make a career out of his military service.
Cone was killed in action on September 26, 1966 by a hostile claymore mine. He is buried at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ. He was survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cone of Newark. He was also survived by two brothers, Clarence Jr. and Lamont and three sisters Christine (Cheathum), Patricia and Sharon.
