August 24, 1968. We lost Robert the following day…We were both Ammo barriers we had two M/60 Machine guns. We were assigned to 2nd platoon, Bravo Co. 4 Battalion 39 Infantry 9th Infantry Division. Odd as it may seem. On March 17th 1968 Spec. 4 Devore, Edward A. Jr. was assigned to the same M/60 Machine Gun team. He became a Medal of Honor winner. Lots of history behind 4/39 9 Infantry.
