Jack A. Barnhart was born on March 23, 1948, in St. Marys, WV, to Charles and Frona Barnhart. His home of record is Rahway, NJ. He had one brother, Carl, and three sisters, Judy, Charlyene and Francine. Jack attended Rahway High School and was well liked among his classmates. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He loved music and played the guitar. In high school, he started a band, The Virgina Rebs. They played for the Women’s Auxiliary in Rahway in 1967. Upon his completion in the service, he planned on marrying his high school sweetheart, Barb.

Barnhart served in the US Marine Corps with E Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He was sent to Vietnam in April 1968.

Barnhart was killed in action on August 27, 1968. He is buried at Rosedale and Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, NJ.
