Leonard E. Sexton was born on September 26, 1947. His home of record is Cookstown, NJ. He left Bordentown Regional High School in February of 1966 to enlist in the Army.
He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He was a 25th Infantry Division tank crewman.
Sexton was killed in action on August 19, 1968. He had only been in Vietnam for six weeks. On the day of his death, A Troop, ¾ Cavalry was ambushed while moving from Cu Chi to Tay Ninh on Highway 26. Elements of the 1st Bn, 5th Infantry, and the 4th Bn, 23rd Infantry, were introduced into the fight. Later in the day, B Company, ¼ Infantry, was tasked with escorting a unit from the ¾ Cavalry, into Dau Tieng. Shortly before 7 PM, the combined force was hit by rocket-propelled grenade fire, damaging several APCs and tanks. Supporting arms fires were called in, allowing the force to move through the ambush area, arriving at Dau Tieng, just before 8 PM. The ¾ Cavalry lost five men including Sexton.
His wife, the former Dolly Morris, his parents Earl and Amy Sexton, and two brothers, Frank and Paul, survived him. The Leonard Sexton Memorial Post 6590 in Cookstown, New Jersey is named for Leonard.
