Harold L. Cheadle, Jr. was born on May 7, 1944, to Mildred and Harold Cheadle. His home of record is Millburn, NJ. He had two brothers, Steven and Douglas. Harold, (whose nickname was Hank), attended Millburn High School and graduated in 1962. He was gifted in baseball and football and was the captain of the Millburn High School basketball team in 1962. He received the Millburn High School Varsity Club’s Athlete of the Year award. Hank continued his education at Miami University in Ohio where he belonged to a fraternity and loved driving around in his 1966 Plymouth listening to Peter, Paul and Mary.
Hank was married on February 4, 1967, to Dorothy Lovey. The two met while working at a bank in Ohio.
Cheadle left for Vietnam on August 1, 1968. He served in the US Marine Corps with D Company 1st Battalion, 9th Marines and attained the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT). He was killed in action on August 23, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam by an explosive device.
Cheadle was survived by his parents, two brothers and his wife, Dorothy. He is buried in Ashland County Memorial Park in Ohio.
