Antonio A. Grau was born on December 7, 1950, in Havana, Cuba, to Mr. and Mrs. Javier Rodriguez. His home of record is Lodi, NJ. At the age of 6, Antonio and his family moved to New Jersey and settled in Lodi. He had one sister, Esther, and two half brothers, Javier Rodriquez and Erick Grau. He attended Columbus School. He enjoyed baseball and basketball as well as all other sports. He loved convertible T-Birds, Coca-Cola and Fig Newtons. Antonio attended Lodi High School but abandoned his studies to enlist in the US Army in September 1968.

Grau served in the US Army and would eventually attain the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). He completed basic training at Fort Dix, NJ. He was first sent to Korea and then he volunteered for service in Vietnam. He was sent to Vietnam on July 7, 1970. He was assigned to K Company, 7th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division as an Army Ranger.

On August 16, 1970, Grau was wounded and hospitalized until August 28. He was mortally wounded two days later on August 30, 1970, in An Khe.
