James A. Dalton was born on July 11, 1947. His home of record is Jersey City, NJ. He was the oldest of seven children; Robert, Alan, Glen, Lorraine, Joyce and Judy.
Dalton graduated from Public High School 39 and Dickinson High School where he lettered in Track. After graduation, Dalton joined the city’s Earn and Learn Program and was working for the Jersey City library system.
Dalton was an avid stamp and coin collector.
He was drafted in July 1967 and completed basic training at Fort Dix. He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). He was attached to the 9th Division, 47th Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Dalton was killed in action on August 30, 1968. He is buried at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, NJ.
