Peter F. Kovach was born on September 4, 1948. His home of record is West Orange, NJ. He graduated from West Orange High School in 1966, where he was a member of the golf team and yearbook staff. Kovach was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in West Orange. He was also a caddy at Essex Falls Country Club and a paper carrier for the Newark Star Ledger during the summer.
He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
Kovach was killed in action on August 24, 1968. He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth. Kovach was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and various marksmen medals. On Memorial Day 2012, he posthumously received the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the New Jersey Vietnam Service Medal at a ceremony dedicated to his memory in West Orange.
He is laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange, alongside his parents.
