On December 5, 1969, Beksi’s squad was on patrol and got turned around and ended up in an area that had been scheduled for an artillery strike by American forces in Quang Nam Province. In the confusion, Beksi and another Marine were killed. A letter from his Commanding Officer to his parents stated that Beksi was mortally wounded at Hill 88, near the vicinity of Los Banos firebase in Thu Thien Province. He died while being evacuated to Danang. This information is contradictory to the information that was previously provided by the US Marine Corps.
