Nathan C. Lunapiena was born on May 21, 1945, in Bedford, NJ. His home of record is Hoboken, NJ, where he was a long time resident. He had one brother, Louis. He graduated from Hoboken High School in 1963. Nathan moved to Teaneck, NJ, just about one year prior to leaving for Vietnam.
Lunapiena served in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT). On April 7, 1968, Lunapiena began his tour of duty in Vietnam. He extended his tour of duty by three months, so that he would be able to leave the service earlier.
On February 22, 1969, while serving with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, Lunapiena was mortally wounded while in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was survived by his wife of one year. Nathan is buried in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
