Lonnie Sheppard, Jr. was born on September 29, 1948. His home of record is Newark, NJ. Lonnie graduated from South Side High School in Newark, NJ. Lonnie enjoyed football and basketball.

He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Corporal (CPL).

Sheppard was killed in action on June 6, 1968. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He is buried at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ.

Lonnie was very outgoing and friendly even when he was a child. He was very popular in school and attracted friends easily. Lonnie enjoyed listening to the Temptations and Stevie Wonder. His favorite movies were the James Bond films. He also enjoyed watching “The Avenger” and other shows.

Lonnie loved sports and played Junior Varsity Football.

Lonnie was an avid photographer and loved taking photos of his friends and family. He planned to attend college upon leaving the service. If I had to say what his career would have been, I would have to say photography, sportscaster, sports writer or coaching a high school basketball or football team.

Lonnie joined the Marines in September 1966. He attained the rank of Corporal before he died on June 6, 1968 in Quang Tri Province. He was 19.
