Samuel Boyd, Jr. was born on July 28, 1944, to Samuel and Mary Boyd. His home of record is Newark, NJ. Samuel had three brothers, Stanford, Calvin, and Gregory, and six sisters, Emma, Lila, Charlotte, Joyce, Ruby and Eloise. He was employed by the Holiday Inn in New Brunswick, NJ.

Boyd served in the US Army and was assigned to 101st Airborne Division, 2/17 Cavalry, A Troop. He attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

Boyd was killed in action on June 6, 1968, when he was on patrol and ambushed by the NVA. He is buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ.
