Scip Tate was born on August 12, 1946, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tate. His home of record is Newark, NJ. His family relocated from Washington, DC, to Newark, NJ, when he was 11. He had three brothers, James, Arthur and Alfred Jr., and five sisters, Monetta, Sophie, Rita, Eva and Lillian. He attended Central High School.

Tate enlisted in the US Army in 1963, and was assigned to the 503rd Regiment of the Army’s Airborne Infantry Division. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).

Tate was killed in action on November 8, 1965. He was shot in the chest during a search and destroy operation.

The National Funeral Home in Washington, DC, arranged funeral services.
