George D. Clayton was born on September 4, 1935, to George and Edith Clayton. His home of record is West Belmar, NJ. He had a brother, Robert, and a sister, Marilyn. He graduated from Manasquan High School in 1953.  He had a great interest in fishing.

Clayton served in the US Army, Company B, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry.  He attained the rank of Platoon Sergeant (PSGT).  During a visit to Berlin, he served with the Honor Guard for the Secretary of the Army, Cyrus R. Vance.

Clayton was killed in action on November 7, 1967, and buried in Monmouth Memorial Park in Neptune, NJ. 

His wife, Ericka, survived him.

George Clayton was awarded a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
