Joseph L.J. Simon was born on January 10, 1941, to Joseph and Elizabeth Simon. His home of record is Wharton, NJ. Joseph graduated from Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, NJ. Under his yearbook picture it states: “Loves those women drivers…mischief maker…always talking.” He was a member of the track and basketball teams, as well as in band and part of the cafeteria staff while in high school. His nickname was “Si.”

Joseph served in the US Navy and attained the rank of Boatswains Mate First Class (BM1).

Simon was killed in action on November 24, 1967, in the Dakong Delta when his small boat was torpedoed. His body was missing and retrieved one month later.

Simon is buried in San Diego Military Cemetery. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.

He was survived by his wife.
