David William Brooks was born on February 7, 1945. His home of record is Montvale. He was the only child of Jessie M. and Frederick W. Brooks. He graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1963, where he was an honor student and earned varsity letters in basketball, soccer, baseball, and was an avid golfer. He participated in the All Suburban Basketball Team in 1963. He was a member of the All Saints Church in Glen Rock, NJ, and served on the executive committee of the Young People’s Fellowship. As a senior, he received a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Foundation.

Brooks attended Williams College in Williamstown, MA, before he was drafted into the US Army on July 14, 1967. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).

Brooks was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on November 7, 1968, four weeks before he was due to return to the States. A special service was held for Brooks at All Saints Episcopal Church in Glen Rock, NJ. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Among the medals he was awarded were two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge with a Rifle Bar.
