Mike John Scott was born September 2, 1932, in Poland. His family immigrated to the United States. His home of record is Newark, NJ. He was married and had one son.
Scott served in the US Army and was a member of the Special Operations Augmentation, Command and Control Central, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces. Scott attained the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT).
Scott has been listed as missing in action since May 13, 1969, when his aircraft lost radio contact.
Synopsis (from the POW Network) as to the circumstances behind being listed as MIA:
On May 13, 1969, Scott was aboard an O-1 G aircraft on a radio relay mission for a Special Forces reconnaissance team in the area of the Vietnam-Laos border. Radio contact was lost and it is believed they encountered anti-aircraft artillery fire southwest of their position. A search was attempted but could not be done due to enemy fire until the following day. No evidence was found regarding the aircraft.
Scott is listed as missing in action.
