George J. Pollin was born on February 5, 1942. His home of record is Lavalette, NJ.

Pollin served in the US Air Force and attained the rank of Major (MAJ/O4). He was assigned to the 389 Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam.

On April 29, 1967, Pollin’s aircraft crashed and exploded. He was listed as missing in action. His status remained missing in action until May 18, 1978, when his status was administratively changed by the Department of the Air Force to killed in action.

Pollin’s remains were repatriated on September 13, 1990, and positively identified on December 17, 1990. He was interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on January 14, 1991.

He was awarded numerous medals and decorations including the Silver Star, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Synopsis (from the POW Network) as to the circumstances behind being listed as MIA:
On April 29, 1967, Pollin was the co-pilot of an F-4C aircraft, which was on a strike escort mission in North Vietnam, Nz Province, when he was reported missing in action. His aircraft, number two in a flight of four, was hit by hostile ground fire, rolled over, crashed and exploded. Pollin could not be located.
