James R. Morris was born on November 7, 1945. His home of record is Phillipsburg, NJ. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1964.

He served in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He was sent to Vietnam on November 28, 1967. He was assigned to 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon, L Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines.

Morris was killed in action on January 31, 1968, in Dai Loc District of Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His platoon was operating as a reaction force in the vicinity of the village of Dong Phu.

Morris received numerous awards and medals, including the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam, the Military Merit Medal and the Gallantry Cross with Palm.

He is buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ. His cousin Albert A. Outwater, Jr. was also killed in Vietnam, on July 21, 1967. Morris was survived by his wife and daughter.
