John J. Nemchik, Jr. was born on February 25, 1946, to John and Juliana Hornyak Nemchik. His home of record is Trenton, NJ. He had one sister, Rita Marie. John was a 1960 graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, a 1964 graduate of Cathedral High School and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption.

He attended Rider College for two years while working for the New Jersey State Corporate Tax Bureau.

Nemchik enlisted in the US Marine Corps in November 1965, and began basic training in January 1966. He was assigned to a communications company with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division in August 1966. He attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL).

Nemchik was killed in action on May 18, 1967, in Quang Tri from a rifle shot wound in his chest.
