Joseph McCants, Jr. was born on April 7, 1949. His home of record is Trenton, NJ. He was an honor student at Junior High School no 1 and attended Trenton High School for two years before enlisting in 1967.

He entered the US Army and attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT). He served with A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division stationed at Camp Evans, Quang Tri.

McCants was killed in action on May 17, 1969 in the Quang Tri Province, Vietnam during the Hamburger Hill battle. He is honored at the Mercer County Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Princeton Junction, NJ. He was survived by his parents, wife, Gail and daughter Stacy. He was also survived by two sisters, Hester and Louise.
