John Hoar was born on September 17, 1945, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoar. John had one brother, Robert, and one sister, Marybeth. His home of record is Belleville, NJ. He attended Queen of Peace School, St. Peter’s and finally Belleville High School. At age 16, he left high school in his junior year.

Hoar worked for the Eastern Tool and Manufacturing Company of Belleville.

He entered the US Army on August 6, 1965, and trained at Fort Dix, NJ, before arriving in Vietnam on Christmas Day 1965. Hoar was attached to Company B, 1st Cavalry Division (Airborne) and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

Hoar was killed in action on February 13, 1966, during a firefight at Bongson, 265 miles northeast of Saigon, South Vietnam. He was fatally wounded in the head.

A Solemn High Mass of Requiem was held at St. Peter’s Church. Cleveland Street at Dow Street in Belleville, NJ was named in his honor in February 2016, the 50th anniversary of his death.
