Richard L. Long was born on March 6, 1944, to Mr. and Mrs. James Long. His home of record is Glen Rock, NJ. He had one brother, Jim. Richard graduated from Glen Rock High School in June of 1962. Under his yearbook picture it stated “L.D…’A quiet person except when otherwise’…Soccer…Track…Senior Play…Junior Prom Committee…Yearbook…Future Plans: Fashion Designer or Architect.” Richard studied graphics and design before joining the service.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT). Long served in the Army for two years before being sent to Vietnam. He was attached to the 101st Airborne Division.

Long was killed in action on January 4, 1968, after being in country just one month.
