Jeffrey Lynn Scheller was born on July 31, 1954. His home of record is Rahway, NJ. He was the 8th of 10 siblings; Edward, Kathleen, John, David, William, Pamela, Patricia, Richard and Michael. His parents were Patricia E. and Leon E. Scheller.

He attended St. Michael’s High School. Scheller loved the outdoors, especially camping. He also enjoyed animals playing the guitar and spending time with his family.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1971 and attained the rank of Seaman Apprentice (SA).

Scheller was killed in action on October 1, 1972, while aboard the USS Newport News CA148. While his cruiser was shelling North Vietnam, an 8-inch gun exploded killing Scheller and 19 other men.

He was awarded the Purple Heart and is buried at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
