Algimintas Antanas Virbickas was born on December 19, 1948, in Montreal, Quebec. In 1963, the family relocated from British Columbia to River Edge, NJ. His home of record is West Paterson, NJ. He never actually lived there but instead was his mother’s address when he filled out his military paperwork. Al, as he was called by his family and friends, graduated from high school in Little Falls, NJ, and continued his education at Tusculum College in Tennessee.

Virbackas served in the US Army and attained the rank of Corporal (CPL). He was attached to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry.

He was killed in action on November 21, 1969, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
