James A. Skiles was born on February 2, 1945. His home of record is New Brunswick, NJ. He had a younger sister, Vida. James liked to sing.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He was assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was a paratrooper and machine gunner.

Skiles was killed in action on March 3, 1967, in an engagement east of Katum in Tay Ninh Province. He is buried at Rosedale Memorial Park in Linden, NJ.
