Anthony John Salerno was born on May 5, 1947, in New Rochelle, NY. His father worked as a civilian for the Defense Department in Philadelphia, PA, and the family moved to Cinnaminson, NJ. His home of record is Cinnaminson. Anthony graduated from Palmyra High School in 1966. He was interested in weight lifting, sports and singing. In high school, he was voted most talented and sang at the World’s Fair in New York City in 1965. He later sang for his friends in Vietnam.

He entered the US Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL).

On May 26, 1967, Salerno was killed in action during a mortar attack while serving in the First Marine Division at Quang Tin Province. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.

Anthony Salerno was 20 years old. He was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY. He was survived by his parents, Mary and Tony, and three brothers – Ralph, Michael and John.
