Paul John Mongillo was born on January 22, 1933. His home of record is Riverside, NJ. Paul was a 1950 graduate of Riverside High School where his interests included reading and sports.

Mongillo entered the US Air Force on January 26, 1950, where he attained the rank of Major (MAJ). After training, Paul settled down and married Therese Auer. Together they had two boys and three girls.

His squadron was assigned to the Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand. On December 17, 1967, he was killed in action.

He left behind his wife and children as well as his parents and his brother, John.

Mongillo was awarded the Air Force Cross, the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.
