Hillman G. Chambers was born on October 30, 1948, to Mr. and Mrs. William E. Chambers, Sr. His home of record is Pemberton, NJ. He had five brothers, William, Donald, Terry, Gary and Dale, and one sister, Bonnie. Hillman left Pemberton Township High School during his senior year to enlist in the US Army. He obtained his high school diploma while training at Fort Jackson, SC.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

Chambers was killed in action on July 26, 1968, while serving as part of a helicopter crew that was assigned to evacuate the wounded. He is buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Pemberton, NJ. Chambers was survived by his parents, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Cramer, and siblings; William, Donald, Gary, Dale and Bonnie.
