Phillip C. Adams was born on May 24, 1950, to Matthew and Betty Adams. His home of record is Camden, NJ. He graduated from Camden High School.

He married Karreen R. Gauthney in June of 1967, and they had two children, Phillip C. II. and Valencia.

He entered the US Army and attained the rank of Private (PVT). He served as a Petroleum Supply Specialist. He served with the 524th QM Co, 96th S&S BN, 54th GS Group. He began his tour of duty in Vietnam on December 4, 1969.

Adams was killed in action on May 5, 1970. He drowned in the Khanh Hoa province, South Vietnam. His body was recovered and he was returned to the United States for burial. He was awarded the National Defense, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign medals.
