Thomas Alan Ackerman was born on October 26, 1947. His home of record is North Haledon, NJ. He attended Manchester Regional High School and graduated in 1965. According to the description under his yearbook photograph he was nicknamed “Tom”, was shy, quiet, and a good student. His favorite classes were wood shop and mechanical drawing. His favorite teacher was Mr. Crossley and was usually seen with fellow students Bob and Neil. His outside interests included hunting and fishing. His future plans included a career in carpentry. He was a member of the Industrial Arts club.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT/E5).

Ackerman began his tour of duty on January 10, 1968. He was killed in action on September 4, 1968, in Kontum, South Vietnam. He is buried at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa Boro, NJ.
