Eugene J. Feeley, Jr. was born on June 11, 1942. His home of record is Irvington, NJ. He had a sister, Kathy, and three brothers, Dennis, James and Michael. He attended Irvington Technical High School for three years. While at Irvington Tech, Eugene was a member of the track team. He played semi-pro baseball with the Garwood Athletic Association while living in Westfield.

Feeley enlisted in the US Navy before finishing high school so he finished his high school studies in the Navy and became a fireman’s apprentice on the USS Nespelen.

According to his family, the four-year veteran of the US Navy enlisted in the US Marine Corps because he wanted to see a different field of service. He attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). A machine gunner, he arrived in Vietnam only three weeks prior to his death. A member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, Feeley trained at Parris Island, SC, and at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Feeley arrived in Vietnam in August 1968. On September 13, 1968, at the age of 26, he was killed in action while on an operation in Quang Nam Province.

He had hoped to return to the states as a drill instructor after his tour of duty. He left three children, twins, Deann and Leann, and Kimberly.
