Michael B. Piascik was born on November 28, 1945. His home of record is Elizabeth, NJ. He attended grammar school in California and then moved to New Jersey. Michael graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth in 1963. He loved to swim and fish. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football. He was unable to get involved with organized sports because he was always working. After school, Michael worked at a fruit stand and then at a Chinese restaurant to help make ends meet. When time permitted, he would meet his buddies at a local soda shop, “Moy’s”, to hang out. He had a wonderful sense of humor.

Piascik enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 19 and completed his basic training at Camp Lejeune, NC. Shortly afterwards, he was shipped off to Vietnam and attained the rank of Corporal (CPL).

While in Vietnam, he demonstrated leadership skills and compassion. When writing home, he would speak about the Vietnamese children. He was deeply concerned about their welfare and saddened by their life in the villages. He was extremely good-natured and considerate of other people and their feelings.

Piascik was killed in action on July 6, 1966, in Quang Nam, South Vietnam, when his vehicle crashed. .
