Michael Robert Nawrosky was born on June 18, 1941. His home of record is Dumont, NJ. While in high school, he was president of the honor society and captain of the football and track teams. Michael graduated from the Military Academy at West Point in 1965. During his first year at West Point, he received an award for outstanding plebe.

Nawrosky served in the US Army and attained the rank of Captain (CAPT). He was aide-de-camp to the Commandant of Cadets at West Point from 1966 to 1967. He was then assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.

In Vietnam, while serving as the Company Commander, Nawrosky was severely wounded on April 4, 1968, and was evacuated to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was wounded in the throat by enemy artillery fire. He passed away as a result of those wounds on July 6, 1968. He had been undergoing surgery (one of several) in hopes of restoring his voice when he died. He is buried in the United States Military Academy Cemetery at West Point, NY.

He received numerous awards and decorations including the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart Medal.

Nawrosky was survived by his parents and a sister.
