Robert H. Ranges, Jr. was born on December 31, 1947. His home of record is River Vale, NJ.
He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). Ranges was a radio operator assigned to the Army’s 9th Infantry Division as a rifleman.
Ranges was killed in action on April 4, 1968 in the Mekong River Delta near Can Tho.
The following is an excerpt from The Record dated Monday, January 29, 1973:
“He was proud of the fact that he was fighting for his country,” said the mother of Spec. 4 Robert H. Ranges, Jr. “He couldn’t wait to get in so he would walk down the street, hold his head high, and know that he did his bit.” Spec. 4 Ranges had been in the service less than a year in April 1968 when he died of gunshot wounds in the Mekong River Delta near Can Tho. He was a radio operator assigned to the Army’s 9th Infantry Division as a rifleman. Three weeks before he died, he spoke to his family from Tokyo where he was on rest and rehabilitation leave. The 20-year-old was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Ranges.
