Gregory William Butler was born on March 4, 1947. In high school he enjoyed outdoor activities and baseball. His home of record is East Keansburg, NJ.

Butler entered the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division when he was sent to Vietnam.

On March 1, 1967, 3 days before he turned 20, Butler was killed in action. Among the family members left behind were his parents and two sisters. He is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown, NJ.
