William G. Burke was born on June 5, 1948 in Bronx. His home of record is Saddle River, NJ. Burke attended Northern Highlands Regional High School, leaving after his junior year. He was 20 and lived with his parents, Raymond and Helena Burke, at 37 Weiss Road until he enlisted.

He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). Burke served with the 7th Battalion, C Company.

He was killed in action by a land mine on March 31, 1969, in Quang Nam Province. He is buried in Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
