Raymond E. Stone was born on November 21, 1946. His home of record is Princeton, NJ. He graduated from St. Paul’s School and Princeton High School. Raymond then enrolled in the University of Nevada but withdrew to enlist.
Stone enlisted in the US Army in May 1966, and attended Officers Training School. He attained the rank of Second Lieutenant (2LT). Stone went to Vietnam and served with the 25th Infantry and Company A, 14th Infantry. He was wounded and returned to combat.
On December 14, 1967, Stone threw hand grenades into, and fired on, two enemy bunkers while leading a rifle team in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam. He moved to within 30 feet of one of the enemy bunkers to destroy it with grenades and was instantly killed when another enemy position opened fire on him. He was 21 years old.
Stone was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Cross. Raymond is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno, NV.
