John E. Mount was born on May 29, 1949, to Edward and Rose Mount. His home of record is Vineland, NJ. He loved sports, especially baseball. He also spent his free time fishing and roller skating. He attended Sacred Heart School and had a paper route delivering the Vineland Times Journal.

He served in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL).

Mount was killed in action on April 7, 1968, while serving with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. They were taking part in Operation Pegasus in Quang Tri Province when Mount died of wounds from mortar fire.
