Richard L. McClain was born in Pensacola, FL, on June 28, 1948, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. McClain. His family moved to Toms River, NJ, when he was eight years old. He had twin brothers, Donald and Daniel. He attended Toms River High School and graduated in 1966. He continued his education at Rutgers University and chose to study chemistry. He left Rutgers after a year and a half to work at Toms River Chemical Company.
McClain was drafted into the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He served with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.
McClain was killed in action on September 30, 1968. In addition to his parents, he was survived by his twin brothers.
Services with military honors were held at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, NJ.
