Ronald John Selig was born October 17, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY. His family had also lived in Long Island and Chicago before moving to Westfield, NJ, when Ronald was twelve. His family consisted of his parents and two brothers; Ronald was the middle child.
After graduating from Westfield High School in 1966, Ronald enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Corporal (CPL). He completed basic training in Parris Island, SC and Camp Lujeune, NC, where he was awarded a plaque for best marksmanship. Shortly before he left for Vietnam he celebrated his birthday with his family and his fiancée, Barbara Smith.
On February 2, 1968, Selig was killed instantly during a combat mission in Quang Tri. He was 19 years old.
