Robert Theodore Miller was born December 2, 1946, in Westfield, NJ, and was the son of Mary Elizabeth and Harry Miller. A 1965 graduate of Westfield High School, Robert went on to study drafting at the Institute of Practical Drafting in Rahway, NJ. Prior to entering the US Army in August 1967, Robert was employed by Elm Radio and Television Company.

Miller trained at Ft. Dix, NJ, and Sandai Base, NM, as a nuclear specialist and at Ft. Sill, OK, as an artilleryman prior to his tour of duty in Vietnam, which began on April 18,1968. He attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

On January 19, 1969, at the age of 23, Miller was killed in action as a result of crossfire in the Tay Ninh Providence of Vietnam.

He received the Purple Heart.
