George K. Beeres was born on January 3, 1942. He was raised in Hoboken, NJ, and attended Our Lady of Grace Grammar School. His home of record is Union City, NJ. Beeres graduated from Demarest High School, where he was a track athlete.
Beeres entered the US Army in 1960 and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). “He had a deep sense of patriotism and often said that he would willingly go wherever he was needed” (Obituary, Jersey City Journal). After serving a tour in Berlin, Beeres reenlisted and underwent special training at Fort Benning as a member of the 1st (Airmobile) Cavalry Division.
On February 11, 1966, Beeres was killed in action after being shot in the stomach. He had turned 24 years old only one month before he died.
