Nelson R. Ramirez was born in Matanzas, Cuba on November 25, 1946. His home of record is West New York, NJ. He arrived in the United States in 1960 and graduated from Memorial High School in West New York, NJ in 1967.
He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). PFC Ramirez began his tour in Vietnam on February 7, 1968. A member of the 526th CC&S Company, he survived an April 9 sniper attack on the Qui Nhon compound and subsequently sent on temporary duty to Da Nang.
Ramirez was killed in action on May 5, 1968. At the time of his death he was serving with the 156th HEM Company. He is buried at Flagler Memorial Park in Miami, Florida.
