Dwight Francis Rand was born November 4, 1945. His home of record is Somerville, NJ. A 1963 graduate of Somerville High School, Dwight enjoyed reading, writing, fine arts and painting. He planned to attend Northwestern University and write a book about the war, especially the Vietnamese people, for whom he had great compassion.
Rand enlisted in the US Army and attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT). He received his basic training at Fort Dix and advanced training at Fort Ord, CA. He was attached to the 25th Infantry Division.
Rand had completed one tour of duty in Vietnam and had volunteered for another.
On January 4, 1968, at the age of 22, Rand was killed in action by enemy fire in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam.
