Gerald D. Geoghegan was born on November 24, 1942 in Hartford, CT. His family relocated to Verona, NJ in 1947. He was a graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School and Seton Hall University. He was active in intramural sports and a member of Omega Pi fraternity.
He enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserves after graduating high school. He then joined the Platoon Leaders Corps and upon graduation from college in June 1964, was commissioned and placed on active duty. He was stationed at Camp LeJeune and later Camp Pendleton. Following these assignments, Geoghegan was sent to the Philippine Islands for intensive training before his outfit landed in Vietnam.
He attained the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT). He had planned to make his the Marine Corps his career. He served in Vietnam with D Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division.
Geoghegan was killed in action in Quang Tri Province on September 18, 1966. He was survived by his father James J. “Bud” Goeghegan, mother Louise and brothers James C. and Phillip.
