Robert M. Casey was born on June 15, 1948, and was a 1966 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Guttenberg, NJ. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping, and all outdoor sports. Casey was a Boy Scout and he enjoyed sketching in his spare time.

He entered the US Navy in July 1966 where he attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman Third Class (HM3).

On May 16, 1968, at the age of 19, Robert Casey was killed in action in South Vietnam.

Robert Casey was awarded the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart and the Republic of Vietnam’s Armed Forces Honor Medal.

According to Casey’s mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Casey, there is a building at Naval Air Station in Lakehurst, NJ, that is named Casey Hall in his honor. There is a plaque on display at the Visitors Center at Lakehurst as well. There is also a street at Pearl Harbor named Casey Street and a clinic in Japan at the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
