New Jersey Filmmaker Tom Phillips features the Vietnam Veteran volunteers of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation for the core of his most recent film, Vietnam Aftermath. This film examines the aftereffects of serving in-country during the Vietnam conflict and the lingering effects being felt to this day. Through a raw examination of their service overseas, what they were met with when they finally came home, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Phillips delves into the experiences of these brave men:
“More than 40 years have passed since the official end of the Vietnam War. For years, many veterans of this war have refused to talk about their experiences. Now… four Vets that belong to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial share their stories for the first time.”
Vietnam Aftermath has been received with critical acclaim at over one hundred film festivals worldwide and has received fifty-five awards to date. If you are hoping to catch a screening of this instrumental film, you can catch it at two local upcoming film festivals: New Hope Film Festival (New Hope, PA, July 19-28) and Monmouth Film Festival (Red Bank, NJ, August 8-11).
The film is scheduled to be screened at the New Hope Film Festival during the “Traumatic Experiences” slot (5:30pm-7:45pm) on Thursday, July 25 at the New Hope Arts Center in New Hope, PA. Tickets are $12.50 for general admission, $11.00 for students and seniors and are available online here or by calling (800) 838-3006. Winning films will be announced on during the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 28th from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
The Monmouth Film Festival screening will be on Sunday, August 11 from 11:45pm-12:45pm. Nicholas Marchese, President of the Monmouth Film Festival, and Rich Marchese, Vice President, have generously invited the Veterans involved with the film on-stage for a 30-minute Question-and-Answer session following the film. The Board of Trustees and staff of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation are proud to support this film and the recognition of our Vietnam Veterans and will be in attendance.
