New Exhibit Cases Highlight Artifacts

by Greg Waters, Curator

The Museum is excited to announce the acquisition of eight new exhibit cases that are in the process of being incorporated in the gallery. The Museum has thousands of items in its collection, the vast majority of which are kept in storage due to limited space and the inability to properly display them. These state-of-the-art display cases will allow more items to be shared with visitors and interpreted as part of the Museum’s stories.
The first case was recently installed with various types of military head wear, including a combat helmet, a helicopter pilot helmet, a boonie hat, and a green beret. All of these artifacts were worn in Vietnam and will give visitors a better understanding of the technology and the uniforms that were used during the war. The remaining seven cases will be installed in the coming weeks and will feature artifacts from the war as well as items related to the protest movement, the creation of the Memorial, and the lasting impact that the Memorial Foundation has had on the community.
These cases were purchased in honor of John Antonellis, a longtime friend, volunteer, and trustee of the Foundation. John recognized the importance of keeping our mission relevant through best practices in museum exhibition design, collections care, and historical research. These cases are the first phase of the Museum Upgrade Project.
