Biography


Neal D. Epifanio was born on October 8, 1950. His home of record is Fairfield, NJ. He was the son of Gerald and Phyllis Epifanio and brother to Philip. His mother served as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Nurse Corps. He attended West Essex High School and graduated in 1968.

Neal entered the US Army and went to Fort Campbell, KY, on July 18, 1968. He trained for several months at Fort Collins, CO. He was later assigned to the 101st Airborne Division - Air Mobile, specializing in radio duties. He went to Vietnam in July 1969. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).

On September 3, 1969, Epifanio was killed in action in a helicopter crash.

Epifanio was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Sharpshooters Badge, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.
